What are These New Realities and What Happened to the Old One?
A look at the impact of emerging technologies like Google Glass, Leap Motion, augmented reality, 3D crafting and printing, and other technologies that will define the world students will live and work in. Already entering farsighted schools, these technologies are beginning their amazing, positive impact on instruction. The Best of Collaboration, Communication, and Innovation
Dembo and Bellow literally wrote the definitive guide to web technologies in the classroom. In this session, they will share more than just a whirlwind tour of the essential tools for educators; they will demonstrate how to tap into a network of others that are on similar learning expeditions. Since authoring the book, they have connected with hundreds of educators who have used it to begin their own professional learning journeys. However, gaining knowledge of specific tools is only half the experience. Connecting with other educators and learning how to use these tools to transform the classroom is the ultimate goal. In this session, Dembo and Bellow will explore how to use web tools to create interactive, collaborative experiences for teachers to engage in with their students. They will do this through a series of live demonstrations that involve every attendee in the room. Starting with basics such as polling and backchannels, the presenters will illustrate new models of interaction that leverage mobiles, tablets, and any other device that can access the web. Attendees will learn by doing and walk away with a concrete understanding of how to replicate these experiences in their own classrooms.
